Perhaps the strangest party yet. Join in with the kitties and dogs and birds on Twitter and have fun and raise money for a animal shelter in the UK. Weird but good. Very good.

It’s going to be hugely different to have a net savvy President.  I get emails from the man. He’s putting up information on the web about wth they’re going to do with the umpteen billion dollar recovery bill.  And he knows how to use a Blackberry.  What a far cry from the governing folks who think the internet is a collection of tubes!

I don’t expect I’ll like everything he does.  Actually, I have specific issues with some things I know he’s going to do. But I am thrilled to see that at least he’s telling me what it is in a timely fashion, even if I don’t like it.  Heck, if I know what it is in time, I even have a chance to protest against it and possibly help change it.

It’s damned encouraging to me to see a President who actually knows how to use the internet.

My friend Milt and I watched President Obama’s inauguration together.  We grinned and laughed and cried. Virginia had the first African American governer and now the US has the first African American president. YAY! Fortunately, I also think he was by far the best of the choices available too. Phew!

I’m not African American, which is quite obvious from my photos. I’m still proud to see an African American president. Whatever their other faults, my parents forgot to teach me that race meant anything in particular, and I’ve always been puzzled by the concept at best.

My best friend Milt is African American, though.  Milt grew up in Richmond, the old capital of the Confederacy to give you a clue about its historical character. He grew up  in the middle of the Civil Rights movement of the 60’s. His father was extremely active in the movement, and Milt as a youth grew up in the midst many of its historical figures. He got integrated into a white high school, and on and on. All these things are historical events to me, as I was only a year old when the Voting Rights Act came into being and not quite 4 when Dr. King was assassinated, but he grew up in the middle of it.

Milt said to me just before the actual inauguration, “I never thought I’d live to see it.”

Milt, I’m glad you did. I’m glad I did too.
