I still have this stupid cold. I’ve tried beating it to death with water and mucinex and sleep and sambucol and vitamin C. It won’t die. So I have to live with it.
Chatting on IM today with a friend who also has a cold, he said to try Nyquil. I said I couldn’t, that Benadryl makes me so wired I can’t sleep for days. There ensued a half hour of looking at labels and wikipedia and websites to find out about the modern Nyquil.
It seems that Nyquil isn’t made with benadryl any more. Oh good. Maybe I can take it, then. Nor is it made with pseudoephedrine (PSE), just in case you want to make meth out of your cold medicine. Well, you can get the PSE version if you’re willing to sign over your first born at the pharmacy counter. I have no first born, though, so I have to go with the non-PSE version.
The new non-PSE version of Nyquil, with which you cannot make meth, only has the fun drugs doxylamine succinate and dextromethorphan. Now, dextromethorphan is a dissociative hallucenogenic drug in and of itself. And doxylamine succinate is a hypnotic that is considered by some to be more potent than phenobarbitol. You don’t need to even talk to the pharmacist to buy the hallucenogenic and hypnotic version of this stuff! Just take a few extra doses of it at once. This is, of course, much safer. I guess they figure we’ll all be too whacked to make meth anyway if we take it.
But what would happen if you bought 25 bottles of Nyquil? I don’t know. I only bought one. I’ll let you know if I see stars or something.
