Thirteen of Immi’s Favorite Quotes from Lord of the Rings

I cut the teeth of my imagination on classic fantasy
and science fiction as a very young child. The first adult movie I ever
saw was 2001, at the ripe old age of 5, in the theater, and I still
remember bits of the movie from that first viewing. I read the
Chronicles of Narnia at age 7, and I first read J.R.R. Tolkein’s Lord
of the Rings trilogy, and of course The Hobbit, on my own when I was
11. Perhaps it’s no wonder I turned out a bit different, eh? hehe I’ve
always adored LotR, and the movies are no exception. Inspiration, laughter, tears, love, myth, magic… What more could you want in a tale? Here are some of
my favorite quotes from LotR and my comments about why I love them so much.

1. “I don’t know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.”

   I wish I had the guts to say this sometimes. hehe
2. “Even darkness must pass. A new day will come.”
   ~~ Samwise Gamgee
   How many times in the midst of a bipolar mixed depression have I
   chanted something like this to myself. It will pass. It will pass. It
   will pass.
3. “What are we holding on to Sam?”
   “That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo… and it’s worth fighting for.”
   ~~ Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee
   As crappy as this world can be, there IS still good in it and it’s STILL worth fighting for in whatever way we can.
4. “I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of
   me. A day may come when the courage of Men fails… when we forsake our
   friends, and break all bonds of fellowship… but it is not this day.
   An hour of wolves and shattered shields when all hope comes crashing

   Yes, just refuse to give up today. Give up some other time if you must, but not today!

   Life is like that. We’re all going to die. Might as well go for the brass ring along the way.

7. What a great reminder of how stupid it is to judge others.

   How to the point! I often feel that way about stupidity. hehehe
9. “You will unite or you will fall.”~~ Lord Elrond to the Council at Imladris
   A person’s will or a nation’s will, it applies universally.
10. “The quest stands upon the edge of a knife. Stray but a little and it will fail. But hope remains, as long as company is true.” ~~ Lady Galadriel to Frodo
    Friends and a will to go forward where you need to go, that makes life work.
11. “What are we going to do then?”

    allowed a little peace from foolish questions.”

    Can I say that to customers with stupid questions? Can I? Can I huh?

    Ah, the myth we are taught to expect of lovers. Appropriate for saving the entire human race, not so much elsewhere.
13. “It is a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You
    step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no telling
    where you might be swept off to.” ~~ Bilbo Baggins
    Step out the door anyway. Just keep your feet.
